The European Union could “respond swiftly and decisively” against what it calls “unjustified” travel bans imposed by the US on five Europeans involved in fighting digital hatred and misinformation, an EU official has said.

European Leaders Condemn US Action as ‘Coercion’

European leaders such as Emmanuel Macron accused Washington of “bullying and threats”, following the visa restrictions were placed on individuals that were central to campaigns to enact laws governing US-based technology firms.

“For too long, European activists have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to coerce US companies to punish US perspectives they oppose,” stated a senior US official online. “The current administration will not stand for such actions of extraterritorial censorship.”
