Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Secure French Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now secured the season-opening trophy on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown between the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the net in the opening stages.

However, Marseille struck twice late to seize a shock lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital equaliser in the dying moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 shootout victory.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past thirteen years.
