Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
The preview shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
